One Nation Under God- Pray For America

2 Chronicles 7:14 NKJV

14 if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.

The chaos in the capital yesterday was heartbreaking. Regardless of my personal feelings on what is happening in congress and our 2020 Presidential elections; I can honestly say this world does not NEED Trump or Biden, although I may have a preference on who would be the better choice the reality is that what this world TRULY needs is Jesus!

The hatred and violence has continues to grow over the years and we are now living as the Divided States instead of the United States. I have no doubt in my mind that the circumstances we are facing today are due to the over abundance of distortion of the truth.

We are living in a world where lawmakers are implementing laws that are contrary to what the Bible tells us is good and righteous. The distorted views that have corrupted our thinking and directed us down a sinful path– claiming what is evil is good and what is good is evil– is coming to a head and our nation is beginning to implode.

Regardless of what party you support or how you feel about the recent election; we need to know that God is still in control. With the perverse laws and downright blasphemy it should come as no surprise that this great nation is reaping what it has sown for many years.

Lawmakers and their supporters have turned our nation away from God and led many astray as they sought to fulfill their own agendas. But we should not fear in these uncertain days ahead, God is bigger than any circumstances we may face. Keep hope and hold on to the promises of God, knowing that one day every head will bow and every tongue will confess that He is God.

Join me in prayer this morning as we cover our nation with the blood of Jesus Christ and claim His promises over our life and circumstances.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Lord thank you for giving us the direct line of communication with you through prayer. Thank you for Your promises and for being a God of truth, honor, and justice. We come to You today with a heavy heart, saddened by the happenings yesterday in the capital. Lord this world is so lost and the overall moral compass is broken. Father, the world has misconstrued Your Word over and over again; twisting Your words and changing Your truth to match their needs and feelings. I am so thankful for Your promise to one day return and take all of Your children from this place, for the reason that the son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work.

I pray that as the process continues in the capital that You will expose any lies, fraud, or evil intentions. I pray that You would form a hedge of protection around Your people; protect us from the evil one. Lord, help us to remain steadfast in prayer and let us not be overcome by evil but overcome the evil with good. Help us to remain strong in our faith and continue to fight the good fight holding on to Your eternal promises.

Because I am a child of God, I am saved, and Your spirit lives within me; I have all the power and authority over the enemy. I declare that no weapon formed against this nation shall prosper for it is You Lord that fights for us. I declare that the Lord is our light and our salvation, He is in control and the true ruler of our nation and we will not fear. I declare that satan can not have our nation, our freedom, or our constitution. I declare through all of these circumstances that we are more than conquerors through Christ.

Lord I pray for discernment for those in congress, bring the darkness to light and expose the truth. I pray that all of Your children would be self controlled and alert, knowing that the enemy is seeking to devour us. I pray that You would remind us that You have not given us a spirit of fear, that you have commanded us to be strong and courageous for You are with us where ever we go, and that you have armed us with strength for the battle.

Lord I pray that the hearts, eyes, and ears of each person all across the world would be opened to Your truth. I pray that each would feel Your love and peace surrounding them. I pray that they would turn their hearts away from their evil and sinful ways and seek to know You above all else. I pray that we would not lean on our own understanding but rely on God to show us the way.

Thank you God for giving us victory through Jesus Christ and the confidence in knowing that whatever we ask according to Your will– will be done. Thank you for Your promises to work all things for the good to those who love You and for the peace in knowing that You have already won the battle and have overcome the world.

All the glory and praise be to You for the glory of Your kingdom for greater is He who lives in me than he who is in this world. It is not by my might nor my power but Your spirit that Your will be done. In Jesus mighty name I pray.

Amen

Daily Devo- Communication with God

Our Creator, God, discloses His thoughts, who He is, and what His will is through His word-the Bible. The Bible is a living, historical text; that was spoke directly by God or inspired by God. All scripture is God breathed.

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness

2 Timothy 3:16 NKJV

The Bible essentially is the ultimate love letter from God. Often times, the context of the love letter is ignored or goes unnoticed because of our many needs that we petition Him for.

Our prayers are our responses or conversation starters with God. Our prayer life is often full of requests, needs, or thanks for blessings but unwittingly without reflection on scripture we have read.

It’s important for us to be actively seeking and reading the Bible. God speaks to us through His word. (1 Samuel 3:21) This opens the door for two-way communication with God, enabling you to have a conversation with Him about day-to-day happenings and deeper topics that He exposes to you in His word.

God gives us clarity and understanding through His Holy Spirit as we read and study the Bible. He helps to speak to us in a way in which we understand and can apply it to our life.

It’s important to understand that the Bible is the same today, as it was yesterday, and the days it was inspired and written. God uses different circumstances in our life to help us to understand but the meaning and lesson behind the scripture is the same.

Praying is our communication with God. We can come to Him and talk with Him just as we would anyone else. He is our Savior, our friend, our comforter, and our supporter. There is no special way we must pray. The importance lies in coming to Him with a humble and open heart, seeking Him above all else, and bringing every care, need, sin, or praise to Him.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Lord thank You for being a good Father– always by our side and always ready to listen and help. God I pray that each person would cultivate an open two way communication with You. Lord, help us to turn to You in prayer in all we do and all we go through. Lord, thank You for always being near and listening to our every need. Help us to see and understand that Your word is the ultimate love letter and is full of promises that we can count on. Lord help us to have discernment and understanding when we are reading and studying Your word in Jesus mighty name I pray.

Amen

Daily Devo- Jesus Teaches Us to Pray

23 And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. Now when evening came, He was alone there.

Matthew 14:23 NKJV

Jesus is the ultimate example of the importance of prayer. Jesus prayed in public and in private. He prayed with and for the disciples- He openly prayed for others. Jesus commanded prayer- encouraged prayer- taught prayer- and modeled a healthy prayer life.

During Jesus’ life he often left his disciples and stepped away from His ministry to have alone time in prayer.

Jesus revealed that prayer is much more than request-making or seeking guidance. He teaches us that prayer also drives us for the following-

  • for worship
  • for expressions of praise
  • for a way to show adoration of Him
  • for confession
  • for thanksgiving to God.

In Luke 11:1-4 when the disciples asked Jesus to teach them how to pray- He gave the example of what we call ‘The Lords Prayer”.

Prayer was not just a lengthy word exercise for Jesus, it was a connection and the way to communicate with God. Jesus would pour his heart and soul into His prayers. It was a time of great expression from His spirit. An intense intimacy with God that does not just form overnight. Jesus spent years praying, seeking, and spending time with God to reach the kind of intimacy that His disciples observed in Jesus while praying in the Garden of Gethsemane. (Matthew 26:36-46)

Luke 24:13-32 tells the story of two disciples that walked with Jesus on the day of His resurrection from just outside of Jerusalem to Emmaus. The gospel reveals that they walked and talked with Jesus for several hours but they did not know it was Him.

When mealtime came Jesus prayed over the bread and than broke it- this is when the disciples eyes were opened and they knew it was Him.

Notice that it was something to do with the characteristics of Jesus’ prayer that confirmed to the disciples that it was Him that they had spent all that time with on their journey to Emmaus.

Prayer was the center of Jesus’ life. The Bible is full of examples on different ways and reasons that Jesus prayed.

If Jesus needed alone time in prayer and He is God’s son- how much more do you think that we need prayer to be the center of our life?

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank you Lord for the power of prayer and for giving us Jesus as the ultimate example. Lord forgive us for not coming to you more in prayer. Open our hearts and eyes to the necessity of pray and fill us with the desire to be more intimate with you. Remind us God that prayer helps us to build a relationship with you. I pray that Your message on Jesus’ prayer life is made clear to each person who reads this. Thank you Lord for Your patience and forgiveness in Jesus mighty name I pray.

Amen

Daily Devo- Prayer A Way of Life

Our prayer life and spirituality should not be separated from our day to day happenings. We should be taking what we read in the Bible and our discoveries during prayer time with us through-out the day. Remembering what God has taught us through His word- relaying on His promises- trusting Him in every aspect of our life.

He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.”

John 14:21

After reading Luke 24:13-32 you will see that there is not a lot known about the two who walked the path from Jerusalem to Emmaus. However, it is very clear that they are having internal conflict from a lack of understanding of their circumstances.

Jesus approached the two men and drew near to them when they had a human or earthly need to understand. Jesus wants to be among our earthly circumstances- to be the first one we run to- to carry on a dialogue with us. We are called to make Jesus and our prayer life a priority -NOT a last resort.

Luke 24:17-24

The two men explained in detail what was causing their internal conflict. They expressed their lack of understanding of life’s circumstances and their frustration from the hopes and dreams being crushed.

This is very similar to the way we feel when we pray and cry out to God but do not get the answers that we want- when we want them- or how we want them.

Part of being human means we can only see our circumstances and struggles through a small key hole compared to the whole picture that God see’s. Jesus wants us to express our concerns- to take our burdens to Him- to cast our cares upon Him as we process what is happening in our life.

Often times when we read the Bible and search for answers during times of tragedy we can’t make sense of what it is trying to teach us. This is because during difficult and pressing times we have a very limited perspective- looking for a solution for an apparent tragedy.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

You are our light in the darkness- You care for us even when we aren’t making You a priority- You are always near to me in times of need. Lord, I confess that I tend to get wrapped up in the “tragedy” and go searching for solutions instead of bringing the problems to Your feet. Lord, forgive me for not keeping You as a priority in my life. I am thankful you are a forgiving and merciful Father. Lord, help me to remember what You have taught me- remember that we are only seeing our circumstances through a key hole compared to the whole picture that You see. Lord, help me to lay my problems at Your feet and to put all my hope, faith, and trust in You. In Jesus mighty name I pray.

Amen

Daily Devo- See It Through

Just as listening to the right voice among chaos is very important- so is carrying out what God has told you to do. Mark 1:36-39 the last verse is not merely a review of the passage- it is the application. Jesus did what He said He was going to do- He preached at the synagogues.

Jesus’ target of ministry was to reach ‘all of Galilee’ with the good news. His target would later change as His disciples followed in His steps. The ministry then extended to the ‘ends of the Earth.’ (Acts 1:8)

Application process of our quiet time is equally as important as the rest of it. Meaningful fellowship with Christ comes when we listen to Him- follow His example- and apply His word to our life in the power of the Holy Spirit. (1 Peter 2:21)

Here is a helpful approach to prayer..

A-Adoration- worship God for who He is

C- Confession- acknowledge your sins

T– Thanksgiving- Thank God for His grace and blessings

S- Supplication- Asking God for what you need.

Following the above approach to prayer is a great way to be sure you do not forget what you want to pray, it also helps you keep your prayer life fresh and fruitful.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Your love, mercy, and forgiveness always leaves me amazed. You are a great and just Father. Thank You God for never leaving me nor forsaking me, You keep me safe and protected under Your wings. Lord, forgive me for my sins. Lord, help me to remember to run to You in prayer first and to always seek Your divine direction. Lord, help me to control my words and feelings as I go about my day- I struggle with being effected by those around me. I am so thankful Your grace is new every morning. Thank you for Your many blessings, for protecting my family and leading us in the way we should go. Lord I ask that you help me to form a healthy and fruitful prayer life. I ask that You fill me up with Your Holy Spirit. Give me Your strength to withstand the schemes of Satan and to stand strong in my faith and not be affected by those around me. In Jesus mighty name I pray.

Amen

Daily Devo- Jesus’ priority of Prayer

Our sense of security begins to form when we are just children. We form our inner sense of security from connections made with family members and others through-out our life. As children we want to know that if we go to an adult family member they will be available and care for us when we need them.

In Romans 8:15 the apostle Paul tells us we are adoptive children of God. That we can cry out, “Abba, Father”. Abba is the term that Jewish children use to address their fathers- just as we use daddy, dad, papa, etc.

How do we access the prayer connection to our Heavenly Father?

We can access the prayer connection by studying God’s son, Jesus and His prayer life.

Jesus made prayer a priority in His life. He prayed early in the mornings even after being up all night healing the sick and demon possessed people. (Mark 1:35-39) According to the scripture, Jesus sought isolation to spend His time communicating to God through prayer.

Cleansing and removal is often a need felt by believers, due to sin. However, Jesus was the only one “who knew no sin”. (2 Corinthians 5:21) This brings up the question-

Why did Jesus need quiet time?

Not because He was sinful, but because Jesus limited His divine interventions and attributes while He was on Earth. This was to be the example for us to show the importance of being dependent on God.

Walking in faith is a journey, not a single step. This is why it’s called walking in faith and not jump into faith or leap into faith.

Repeatedly going to God for strength, guidance, mercy, and more is the whole idea of faith. Requiring you to be fully reliant on God.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank you for sending Your son, Jesus, to be a perfect example for us. Thank you for Your never ending grace and for Your guidance through-out Your word. Lord, forgive me for not always prioritizing my quiet time with You. Lord, I ask that You help me to prioritize prayer in my life. Remembering that faith is a journey requiring us to continually come to You to have our needs met. Lord, I pray You restore my sense of security, knowing I can rely on You for my every need. Lord, lead me in the days to come and speak to me during my quiet time, in Jesus mighty name I pray.

Amen

Team-Up Tuesday in Prayer

Team-Up Tuesday in Prayer was designed to bring God’s children together to pray for those that are often “forgotten” in our prayer time and to pray for one another’s needs. Let’s pray and praise together as a nation and watch God’s grace and blessings flow over us.

This week let’s come together as a nation and pray for local service men and women. (Police, Fireman, EMT)

The Bible tells us where two or more are gathered in His name He is there. The goal is to bring us together and lift each other up. Let us all be in agreement that God’s will be done!

Leave your prayer request in the comments or submit it privately here.

3 Mental Barriers preventing a relationship with Christ

In times like we are in today, when the world is turned upside down, as fear and panic are being pumped through the media due to the Covid-19 Pandemic- the nation and its people need to be running to God, not from Him.

I find myself in an awe of disbelief when reading comments and posts from local news stations. The amount of people that are belittling, mocking, and/or denying God and His almighty power is shocking to say the least.

This is a time to stick together, to rise stronger than ever before, to call upon our Savior for help, and to spread the love and truth of Jesus Christ.

Easter was this past Sunday and I don’t find it coincidental that at a time like this we are all having to “carry our own cross.” God is faithful, trustworthy, powerful, and He is the only hope we have to rise above and be saved from our own sinful nature.

It’s hard for me to read comments from others that are bashing and mocking God and His power, when I myself have seen God at work first hand in my life. This brought me to the question of why.

Why are people fighting His love, His power, and His ever present help when we are all in need of something?

The world may be full of uncertainty right now, but one thing remains certain and that is God’s plan. God has already won the battle- He already knows how all of this will end.

So what is holding us back from the relationship with God?

These 3 mental barriers likely have a lot to do with the “why” in your life.

1. Pride
Thinking I got this, I can figure this out, I don’t need anyone’s help

2. Fear
Thinking about what others will think of you, fear you will turn into a “Jesus freak”, fear God will not want a relationship with someone like you

3. Bitterness
Holding on to hurt from the past, growing your heart hard from all of life’s disappointments, and closing your mind and heart off from allowing anything new or positive in

Can you relate to any of the above mental barriers?

I know that even as a devout Christian and follower of Jesus, when I find myself having a “dark season” full of problems and uncertainty, I can usually take a look at my inner being and recent interactions or lack of with God and pinpoint exactly which of the three barriers above has me blocked from overcoming and moving forward.

I’m encouraging you today to do a soul search on yourself.

Do any or all of the above mental barriers exist within you? Are you avoiding a relationship with God because of one or more of these barriers?

Maybe these barriers exist within other relationships as well, not just your relationship with God.

It’s time to break the barriers!

Seek God’s word and His guidance- read the Bible, starting in the areas that you struggle with most and Pray, Pray, Pray!

God can and will redeem and restore you. It takes time and fervent prayer but God is faithful- He is a promise keeper!

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank you Lord for all You do and all You are. Thank you for this message and for Your promises. Lord, I am a sinner and I need Your help, I can’t do this on my own. Lord save me from my sinful nature and wrap my in Your arms. I struggle with mental barriers of pride, fear, and bitterness. Lord, renew my mind, remove the fear, pride, and bitterness. God, show me if there are barriers I am not recognizing. Lead me and guide my paths. God, I need You, I want to run to You first, I want to feel Your love surround me. Lord, deliver me from the enemy and protect my mind, body, and soul. I pray for good health, restoration, and protection over myself, my family, and every nation effected by this pandemic. God we know you have the whole world in your hands and do not wish for any to perish but all to have everlasting life. I pray all the glory be given to You and Your kingdom in Jesus mighty name I pray.

Amen
