But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
Our power as a born again Christian comes directly from the Holy Spirit. When we ask Jesus to come into our hearts; the Holy Spirit (3rd person in the trinity) comes to live within us. Dwelling within our hearts and abiding with us forever more.
Witness is defined by dictionary.com as a verb meaning to see, hear, or know by personal presence and perception.
Being a witness of God doesn’t mean you merely go around telling everyone about what He has done for you. Although sharing your testimony is part of what God has called you to do- we must take notice to what the Bible says about the Holy Spirit living within us.
When we become born again believers and have accepted Jesus as our Savior we begin to walk in the spirit. The Holy Spirit is what helps us to change ourselves from the inside out- to begin living the Christian life through us.
16 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.
Galatians 5:16 NKJV
We can not make the changes on our own. The human species is flawed. Without Jesus being the bridge between us and God we are nothing. However, when we accept Jesus as our Savior, He bridges the “gap” of sin between us and God. He sends the Holy Spirit to dwell within us from that day on.
The Holy Spirit lives within us and bears witness to those around us as they see the changes in our life right before their eyes. We are called to be a witness through the power of the Holy Spirit so that others will see we are not like those who live for the world.
Have you accessed God’s power?
You do not have to fight the battles in this life alone. God is almighty and powerful- He has already won the war- put your trust in Him and unleash the power of God in your life!
Thank you for sending Your son to die on the cross for my sins and bridging the gap between us. Thank you for giving me access to Your power through the Holy Spirit. Lord I confess that I get wrapped up in the moment sometimes and forget that my actions, my words, and my attitude should reflect You. That my pure existence is to be witness of Your love and to share the exciting news of God’s power, patience, and purpose for our lives. I pray that You would give me discernment and direct my paths. I pray that You will help me to exercise self-control and not be so easily swept up into the world. Thank you for Your forgiveness and promises to help me and protect me in Jesus mighty name I pray.
God’s love does not stand in comparison to human or worldly love. God’s love is perfect and unchanging. Pouring out daily into our hearts, enriching our lives, and giving us peace and purpose in His kingdom.
Paul wrote this in Ephesians 3:17-19 about the love of God.
17 that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height— 19 to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
When putting our hope in Jesus and trusting God with our lives, we begin to experience a new type of love- Agape. A love that pours into our hearts daily. A love that can’t be determined, changed, or earned by what we do or do not do.
5 Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.
Romans 5:5 NKJV
A love that is patient, kind, understanding and unfailing- A love that does not disappoint. A love that can only be received from God- that fills the void- and gives us the fulfillment we long to have.
We were created by Him- for Him. Which means the void we feel and often try to fill with worldly things can ONLY be filled by Him- through the outpouring of love by the Holy Spirit.
God wants us to share this good news with those He places in our lives- so that ALL of His children will know Him and experience His love that surpasses all understanding and to live their best life fulfilling their purpose in His kingdom.
Thank you Lord for loving me so deeply and for pouring out Your love through the Holy Spirit. I confess that I should be sharing the good news of Your love more often then I am. Lord, sometimes I am so wrapped up in my own feelings that I fail to share Your unchanging and never failing love. Lord, I am thankful that Your grace is new every morning and nothing will change Your love for me. I pray that You would give me the courage and the words to effectively share what Your love has done in my life. I pray You would give me wisdom and knowledge to know when You have sent someone into my life that You want me to share Your love with. Thank you Lord for Your many blessings and for working on my behalf in Jesus mighty name I pray.
Our Creator, God, discloses His thoughts, who He is, and what His will is through His word-the Bible. The Bible is a living, historical text; that was spoke directly by God or inspired by God. All scripture is God breathed.
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness
2 Timothy 3:16 NKJV
The Bible essentially is the ultimate love letter from God. Often times, the context of the love letter is ignored or goes unnoticed because of our many needs that we petition Him for.
Our prayers are our responses or conversation starters with God. Our prayer life is often full of requests, needs, or thanks for blessings but unwittingly without reflection on scripture we have read.
It’s important for us to be actively seeking and reading the Bible. God speaks to us through His word. (1 Samuel 3:21) This opens the door for two-way communication with God, enabling you to have a conversation with Him about day-to-day happenings and deeper topics that He exposes to you in His word.
God gives us clarity and understanding through His Holy Spirit as we read and study the Bible. He helps to speak to us in a way in which we understand and can apply it to our life.
It’s important to understand that the Bible is the same today, as it was yesterday, and the days it was inspired and written. God uses different circumstances in our life to help us to understand but the meaning and lesson behind the scripture is the same.
Lord thank You for being a good Father– always by our side and always ready to listen and help. God I pray that each person would cultivate an open two way communication with You. Lord, help us to turn to You in prayer in all we do and all we go through. Lord, thank You for always being near and listening to our every need. Help us to see and understand that Your word is the ultimate love letter and is full of promises that we can count on. Lord help us to have discernment and understanding when we are reading and studying Your word in Jesus mighty name I pray.
Last week in my post Love Defined I explained how the word love is perceived one way in society– an emotion or attachment and another in God’s eyes–an attitude or behavior. Further I explained that God is the creator of the concept of love and without God love simply doesn’t exist. We love because God first loved us. (1 John 4:19)
Society has become extremely hateful and negative as a whole. God created us and instructed us to love our enemies. (Matthew 5:44) The intolerance, discrimination, and anger/bitterness that people hold against one another is out of control. It has got to the point for some, that those who are different or think differently than oneself is immediate grounds for hatefulness, slander, and down right bigotry.
God never intended for our world to be full of so much hatred– however by choices made by each person in society– here we are in 2020– God is not allowed to be talked about in school, prayer is frowned upon– yet sex, violence, and other sinful nature runs rampad and no one blinks an eye. I think this year needs to be the year we choose change–choose to spread love–healthy, Godly, unconditional love. The Bible tells us in 1 Peter 4:8 that love covers a multitude of sin.
Proverbs 10:12 Hatred stirs up strife, But love covers all sins.
We are called to walk in love, to share the love of Christ with others, and to be the example of Christ’s love to the world. You have everything you need to walk in love. You already have compassion, empathy, patience to love– you only have to accept Jesus and access it through the Holy Spirit. Love is believing the best in people and not the worst.
Ephesians 5:2 And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.
I want to be clear that when I refer to society being hateful and negative as a whole–this INCLUDES many self proclaimed Christians. In fact if I am being honest–I have had some experiences that the Christian folk was far more rude, hateful, and unpleasant than the unsaved folk who had never heard about the love of Jesus. This is disheartening and exactly why Christians get a bad stigma. When people see someone whom is claiming to be a Christian and love God acting in such a way– it detours the lost– why would they want to live for Jesus and act like that? We have to be very careful and be sure that if we are talking the talk– we need to be walking the walk. This doesn’t mean you can’t or won’t mess up because you will– we aren’t perfect. Being aware of your talk and actions during your day to day interactions will help you recognize when your fleshly emotions are starting to take over.
In the Bible God gives us instruction on how to behave like a Christian.
9 Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor (Hate) what is evil. Cling to what is good. 10 Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another; 11 not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; 12 rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer; 13 distributing to the needs of the saints, given to hospitality.
14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep. 16 Be of the same mind toward one another. Do not set your mind on high things, but associate with the humble. Do not be wise in your own opinion.
17 Repay no one evil for evil. Have regard for good things in the sight of all men. 18 If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men. 19 Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. 20 Therefore
“If your enemy is hungry, feed him; If he is thirsty, give him a drink; For in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head.”
21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
God wants us to love like He loves– not like the world loves. God designed the concept of love and wants us to understand how perfect His love is. When we spread love in the way God tells us too– It pleases Him. God even went as far to say in Matthew 25:33-40 that when you help others you are helping Him. I have often heard people say why doesn’t God stop all the terrible things in the world or why does He allow people to go hungry and without a home. I usually respond with something along the lines of “God created us and called us to do His work– often times we see these things because God is calling one of His children to help those in the world around them and unfortunately we don’t always make the move when we are called into action.” One person alone can’t fix all the “problems” in the world today BUT if we all did our part and acted when called upon to help and show love like Jesus–society as a whole would be much, much better.
33 And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. 34 Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: 35 for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; 36 I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’
37 “Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? 38 When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You?39 Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ 40 And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’
