Daily Devo- Examine Your Heart

Proverbs 4:23 NIV

23 Above all else, guard your heart,
for everything you do flows from it.

Our hearts are fragile and unfortunately pain is not something anyone can escape. At some point or another in your life, you will experience broken relationships. This is a direct effect from living in a broken world that is full of sin.

People who have been diagnosed with serious heart conditions need to change their unhealthy habits to help improve their overall heart health. Those that are diagnosed with ‘hardening or blockage or the arteries’ have recurring heart examinations with their doctors.

Just as a person with a heart problem diagnosed by a medical professional has to monitor their condition and identify any potential problematic areas, so should we on a spiritual level.

Proverbs 4:23 tells us to guard our heart that everything in life flows from it.

Think about that for a moment– EVERYTHING flows from it.

That means the good, the bad, the bitter, the joy, the pride and selfishness, and the love or hatred that comes out through our actions and words. To live a truly joyful and blessed life– we need to intentionally examine our hearts (with God’s help) to identify any areas in which we need to grow and change.

Lamentations 3:40 Let us search out and examine our ways, And turn back to the Lord;

Examine your heart and pray– ask God to show you the areas in which need attention. Ask Him for discernment with your actions and words, that He would expose to you when you are reacting out of the flesh and not according to His will.

Psalm 26:2 NIV Test me, Lord, and try me, examine my heart and my mind;

Take a look at these 8 potentially problematic areas in our hearts when examining our spiritual health

  1. Pride: Do I focus on how much I’ve been wronged? Do I have a problem admitting my faults?
  2. Faultfinding: Do I rehearse the faults of others in my life?
  3. Avoidance: Do I avoid being around people with whom I have conflict?
  4. Silence: Do I shut down and refuse to speak about my problems or feelings in a healthy way?
  5. Isolation: Do I withdraw from those around me emotionally?
  6. Unfaithfulness: Do I worry and fret of circumstances outside of my control?
  7. Hopelessness: Do I lack faith that God can and will work out my situation?
  8. Resentment/Bitterness: Do I hold on to my anger and hurt until it turns into resentment or bitterness towards the one who the conflict is with?

The heart examination only works if you are truthful with yourself and God about your feelings and results from ‘your exam’. Finding problematic areas in your heart does not mean you are a bad person or even that God is displeased with you. The condition of our heart and circumstances never surprise God– nor change His love for us.

True freedom and happiness in Christ comes when we acknowledge our problematic areas and seek to change them. Pulling each bad habit, thought, or opposition to God’s Word and will out by its roots and planting new healthy habits; creating new root systems based on His word.

Psalm 139: 23-24 NIV  Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. 24 See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank you Father for giving Your direction and help throughout every day of our lives. Lord, it is because of You and You alone that I am able to share Your love and truth with others. These words are not mine but Yours and I pray that all the glory be brought to Your kingdom. Lord I confess that I have not put much thought into my heart health on a spiritual level, forgive me God, for I only want to please You. Help me to search my heart Lord and expose to me problematic areas. Show me where I am lacking and help me to seek and understand Your truth and will. Lord, I pray You will guard my heart and give me discernment and peace, so that I will not hold on to hurt or anger and allow it to take root in my life. I pray for Your strength to help me to change from the inside out; owning my faults, and seeking to make each right according to Your will. In Jesus mighty name I pray
Amen

Daily Devo- Conflict Resolution

Conflict is a a normal part of life. No one can escape the pain of broken relationships– it is part of living life in a broken, fallen world. Although pain may not be able to be avoided– becoming bitter over the pain caused can be.

The Bible presents to us the ‘freedom of forgiveness’. It also shows us that Jehovah Rapha, the God who heals, gives each believer the ministry of reconciliation. (2 Corinthians 5:18-19)

Before we can reconcile any differences- we must first diagnose the condition of our own heart. Checking ourselves against the eight potentially problematic areas.

8 Areas to Examine in Our Heart

  1. Pride- Do I focus on how much I have been wronged?
  2. Faultfinding- Do I search and rehearse the faults of others?
  3. Avoidance- Do I avoid being around those I have conflict with?
  4. Silence- Do I shut down and refuse to share what I am feeling in a healthy way?
  5. Isolation- Do I withdraw emotionally?
  6. Unfaithfulness- Do I share unnecessary information about my opposer?
  7. Hopelessness- Do I lack faith that God can work in any situation?
  8. Resentment- Do I hold on to my anger until it turns into bitterness?

Hebrews 12:14-15

14 Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord: 15 looking carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and by this many become defiled

The Bible tells us to pursue peace with all people.

How to reconcile

The process of mending relationships and reconciliation of conflict can occur when both parties are willing to listen and communicate without interrupting each other. Both need to show respect and acknowledge there are two sides to every story, two sets of feelings, two hearts that need healing, and two different perceptions of what happened.

6 Do’s of reconciliation

  1. See the situation
  2. Repeat back what you heard
  3. Use words that are encouraging
  4. Be open minded and respectful
  5. Accept you only have the power to change yourself
  6. Be at peace

6 Don’ts of Reconciliation

  1. Don’t forget your opposer is also God’s creation
  2. Don’t hold on to resentment, bitterness, or hatred
  3. Don’t use ‘you’ statements. (You should…You made me…You always..etc)
  4. Don’t get drawn into useless arguing
  5. Don’t expect change immediately
  6. Don’t assume every situation can be reconciled

Apologize and Forgive

The healing of two wounded hearts can’t happen if both parties refuse to ask for forgiveness from the other. We must be careful not to further offend or complicate the situation when we are asking for forgiveness.

5 helpful tips when apologizing

  1. Don’t make excuses
  2. Don’t use the blame game or ‘you’ statements
  3. Accept full responsibility (My attitude was inexcusable)
  4. Accept full blame for your part in the situation (No one can make someone else sin- I acknowledge I sinned against you…)
  5. With a humble heart and attitude explain you have tried to see the situation from their point of view….)

All healing takes time– regardless of the type of wound– physical, mental, or emotional. A wound cannot heal if we don’t leave it alone. Forgiveness works in a similar manner– it can not do its’ job if we don’t give it time. God can use us to help the process by taking these practical steps:

  • Recognize that forgiving someone does not mean they are ‘off the hook’. It means you are no longer carrying the offense and have turned it over to God to handle. It transfers it from your hook to God’s hook.
  • Make the decision that you no longer want to bare the pain from the past.
  • Recognize the unmet needs of the one who hurt you and pray for them.
  • Make a list of each offense you are holding unforgiveness about and release each one to God.

Each person has to accept that there is a chance that the end result could be a negative outcome. Sometimes, the relationship just may not work out between two people. The responsibility cannot fall solely on one of them. Effective and freeing reconciliation comes when both parties handle the process in a Godly manner.

Romans 12:18

18 If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank you Lord for your forgiveness and guidance on reconciling our differences. We know that conflict is going to happen and we ask that you help us handle it in a Godly manner. Forgive me for not always seeking Your counsel before handling situations in the past. God I hand each offense I carry today over to you. Lord help expose to me my own heart and show me where I need improvement. Guide me in the process of reconciliation and help me to remember the do’s and don’ts. I pray that you would help me to live peaceably with all men and forgive just as you have forgiven me. It is in Jesus name I pray

Amen

Daily Devo-Compromising Peace

Are you a people pleaser? Do you often put your own wants, beliefs, and needs to the side to keep peace among friends, family, or co-workers? Maybe you feel your worth comes from what others think, say, or feel about you. Who do you live your life striving to please- God or others?

I am a people pleaser. I know this is not what God has called me to be and I am working hard on learning to stand up for myself and God.

For many years I was living my life under the control of my father. Day after day I willfully gave him all the power over my life. Allowing him to control every decision I made- from when I do yard work to how I raised my child.

It was totally unhealthy!

The worst part was it went on for many years and I didn’t even realize it was happening. I was 30 years old when God showed me CLEARLY what He was doing in my life.

I was going through a period of trials and heartache lasting about four years that finally ended when I became FULLY obedient to God. When crying out to Him about the situations going on at the time God asked me, “Are you going to serve Gary your earthly father, or Me, God THE father? You can’t do both!”

I wept. I knew EXACTLY what God was saying to me.

There were countless times that I did the opposite of what God was telling me to do to please my father and avoid any verbal abuse, physical abuse, or confrontation of any kind.

I longed for my father to be loving, positively involved, and simply proud of who I was- not who he wanted me to be.

The mentioning of God would make his skin crawl. Unfortunately, my father had many demons that he carried throughout his life starting in his own childhood. This made it very difficult when trying to serve God- yet please him.

God wants us to be fully obedient to Him- He doesn’t want sacrifice’s or partial obedience- He wants us ALL IN. I would pray and ask for direction and wisdom- God would show me something and tell me to take action- then I would try to compromise with Him to be obedient yet not upset anyone else.

We can NOT only do a small part of what God tells us to do. When we know He is leading us we have to be bold in Him. Stepping out and standing up in love and not compromising our own morals or relationship with God so others won’t be upset.

Living in a compromised peace is not what God wants for us. We are not to me conformed to this world but TRANSFORMED by the renewing of our mind through Jesus.

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Romans 12:2 NKJV

The world is becoming harder and harder to be a Christian in but we need to be sure we are making our own decisions and not allowing others to influence them. The Bible tells us to stand FIRM on His word and put on the whole armor of God. Our only responsibility is do what God wants us to do.

Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong.

1 Corinthians 16:13 NKJV

Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

Ephesians 6:11 NKJV

When we spend time studying God’s word and seeking Him- He lights a fire within our heart that can not be put out. You should know however, when you are on fire for God, people in the world will reject you- BUT He has overcome the world and we should not fear.

Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.

2 Timothy 3:12 NKJV

These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”

John 16:33 NKJV

We are not created to blend in with the world. In fact, it is quite the opposite- we are created to standout- to be bold and courageous- and to lean NOT on our own understanding.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;

Proverbs 3:5 NKJV

God promises if we stand firm in our faith-seek Him above all else- and love with all our heart, mind, and soul- than we will have a peace that surpasses all understanding.

and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:7 NKJV

God is with you wherever you go! We do not have to live a life in compromised peace. It is time to stand-up, stand-out, and stand-frim on the truth.

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Joshua 1:9 NKJV

Fear not, for I am with you;
Be not dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you,
Yes, I will help you,
I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.

Isaiah 41:10 NKJV

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank you for this beautiful day and for offering us peace that surpasses all understanding. Lord, the world can be such a sinful and misleading representation of You and our destiny, help us to have discernment and knowledge. Let us not lean on our own understanding but trust in You with all our hearts. It is election day Lord, and the stress and tension is very tight. I pray each person would be lead by Your Holy Spirit and remember regardless of the outcome, You are still in control.

Lord I pray that each of us would have the courage to stand strong on Your word and stand up for what is right and true in You. Lord, help us to remember that we are all children of God and You want the world to choose love over hate- peace over strife, and truth over deceit.

Guide our steps and show us the way as we move forward through the election process. I pray Your will be done and the hearts of people all over the world would be open to see You.

Lord I pray for both candidates that each would hold themselves with grace and dignity. That you would protect each of them and their families. Lord I pray people would find love in their hearts and choose to support and uplift regardless of the outcome. I pray for the safety of America, guidance moving forward, and that love would fill the hearts of Your people all across the world. In Jesus mighty name I pray.

Amen

Daily Devo- Take A Stand

Always stand up for what is right and good, even if you feel like you stand alone! Now is the time for people all around the world to be taking a stand. Too many people live their life ‘on the fence’ so to speak. Trying to float through life in a neutral- uncontroversial way- being easily swayed back and forth between two opinion’s: truth and deception.

On one side of the fence: the world- on the other- God’s kingdom.

We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one.

1 John 5:19 NKJV

Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world.

1 John 2:15-16 NKJV

God’s kingdom representing truth, love, patience, faithfulness, meekness, kindness, self-control, etc. The world’s side represents the skewed views of truth and morality- confusing what is right and wrong and misleading people down a destructive path. It is full of deceit, violence, hatred, strife, pride, greed, anger, etc.

12 Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; 13 bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. 14 But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. 15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. 17 And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.

Colossians 3:12-17 NKJV

During a time where emotions are high and our nation is divided more than ever- we need to be the light in an otherwise dark world.

The biggest problem non-believers have with Christians is they say we are hypocrites.

This is because we aren’t deciding where we stand and choosing to take the stand regardless of what others think or feel. We are saying one thing and doing the opposite. When they look at us on the outside and see we are no different than others in the world, we are hurting the image of God.

This doesn’t mean we have to walk through life being over the top religious. God calls us to be who we are- in Him. Remember, it’s about the relationship with God not organized religion. However, we also can’t go through life ‘willy-nilly’ doing whatever we like without any regard of the consequences to our actions.

Often times we are the only example some non-believers ever see of God- we are to be living in God’s kingdom at all times. Once we have made the choice to accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior- we are in God and His holy spirit dwells within us. We are new creatures and the world should be able to see there is a difference in us. We are no longer of this world.

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

2 Corinthians 5:17 NKJV

There are many controversial subjects going on around the world today, in which the media and government have tried to skew as acceptable and right. Things that are clearly spelled out in the Bible as wrong, unrighteous, and some even as an abomination to Him.

We need to remember that the truth is in Him. God is truth. We do not follow the beliefs of the government or anyone else for that matter- except God.

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

John 14:6 NKJV

The whole justice and moral measurement system originated from the Bible and what God has laid out as right and wrong. It seems as if the world has forgotten about God and our moral compass. Now the world is running on personal feelings- which is causing the nation to fall deeper into sin and further away from God.

I have found myself treading lightly around some of today’s controversial topics- in order to ensure I didn’t offend anyone. However, I don’t believe this is what God wants from us.

The more I studied and prayed for our nation the more I realized how God had to be feeling when He sees our nation falling into the traps of Satan and quickly self-destructing.

We have to be very careful as to what we grasp on to as truth and allow into our life and to guide our moral compass.

I believe that God is telling us today to PICK A SIDE!

It’s time to get off the fence and take a stand for what is right and good in the eyes of the Lord. In a time like this- we are the voice for God. We can not stand by and allow the world to fall at the hands of deceit.

If we know something is wrong- yet the world is telling us that it’s okay and acceptable-we must remember we are NOT of this world. We are set apart and made new in His image.

This does not mean we have to be rude or make a big scene when in a situation that is clearly against what the Bible says and what God approves of. But we also do not have to participate or entertain the idea(s) that is of a sinful nature.

As Christians we are the example of what God does for a person’s life and how living with the Holy Spirit dwelling within us, truly sets us apart from the world. If those around us can’t see a difference in us- we are doing the Holy Spirit a huge injustice.

We stand up for our kids when we feel like the school teacher has done them wrong
We stand up for friends and family when others speak against them
We stand up for the injustice in the wake of police brutality
We stand up against anyone or anything that threatens our well being
But, why do we not stand up for God and His truth?

TODAY IS THE DAY TO STAND UP!

Well what if I offend someone?, you may be thinking. Well, that’s just too bad. As long as you are taking a stand from a place of love, peace, and God’s defense- speaking with respect and gentleness- You have no reason to fear any thing. God is with you.

Besides, do you not think God is offended by our lack of standing up for what’s right- offended by the behavior and actions of those who are misconstruing the truth. I am sure He is- But He is a forgiving and merciful God if we repent from our sinful ways.

I ask you today, is there something that comes to mind that you have been on the fence about? Something you know is wrong- but you have been justifying why you are not taking a stand and picking a side about it?

Are you standing in a lukewarm position- neither hot or cold in your relationship with God?

And Elijah came to all the people, and said, “How long will you falter between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow Him; but if Baal, follow him.” But the people answered him not a word.

1 Kings 18:21 NKJV

He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me scatters abroad.

Matthew 12:30 NKJV

15 “I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. 16 So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth

Revelation 3:15-16 NKJV

In the above scriptures you can see we are better off to be hot or cold but not lukewarm. This is why I am urging you all today to take a stand- get off the fence- and defend what we know is proven to be good and right with God.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank you for being a merciful and forgiving a God. A God that is never changing- always near- and loves abundantly. Lord, we thank you for this message to take a stand. I confess and ask You to forgive me for straddling the fence in particular areas of my life. I pray that you would open the eyes of each person’s heart- let them see You- Your truth- and feel Your presence among them. I pray that You would expose to each of us any area of our life that we are straddling the fence on- give us the wisdom and clarity to take a stand in and for God’s Kingdom. Lord I pray that You would fill each of us with confidence and boldness in the Holy Spirit. Draw near to each one of us- give us discernment to know what is truth and what is deceit from the world. I pray through the help of the Holy Spirit I am able to be a light for You- a beacon of hope and truth in the dark world around us. I pray that we would learn to stand up and step out in faith- knowing we are not of this world in Jesus mighty name I pray.

Amen

Daily Devo- Faith Tested

The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart,
And saves such as have a contrite spirit.

Psalm 3:18 NKJV

The Bible tells us that in the world we will have tribulations- that trials are inevitable. Everyone experiences trials and pain throughout their life. It’s part of life and a consequence of sin being introduced into the world. Believer and Non-Believers alike will all have pressing times.

The difference among people going through trials are the way we perceive them.

Believers often look at their trials in a different light. When we are going through a trial in life we know we can rest assured knowing that the Lord is near to the broken hearted. Just as Psalm 3:18 tell us.

Furthermore, the Bible also tells us that we can rejoice in our trials- knowing that with trials comes spiritual growth. Our faith will be tested- there are countless stories through-out the Bible that show the various trials and testing of faith.

My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.

James 1:2-4 NKJV

In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ,

1 Peter 1:6-7 NKJV

You can see in the above scriptures that going through trials allows us to grow and obtain practical knowledge of who God is and what He is capable of doing in our life. Our perspective on the trials we face makes all the difference on the outcome and how we deal with the situation.

I personally use to have a problem with perceiving trials in a negative light. I often felt as if I must have done something wrong to deserve going through such painful experiences. When a trial would strike it came with a ‘here we go again’ or a ‘why is it always me’ attitude. This is destructive.

As I studied the Bible, I began to learn that it was my perception and destructive attitude that was making my trials far worse than they should have been. Trials are hard to go through but they do not have to result in our spiritual destruction.

Learning that trials were common and even those in the Bible were bombarded with them- gave me peace to know it isn’t ‘Just Me’. Learning that God is near to the broken hearted and that we should expect trials through-out life in order to grow spiritually gave me the peace of mind that I can and will get through any trial life throws at me.

If God is for me than who can be against me?

31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

Romans 8:31 NKJV

Find joy and comfort when you find yourself in trials. Knowing that God is near- He fights for you- and it will produce spiritual growth.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

I thank you Lord for this day- for Your message on trials- and for using me as a vessel to spread Your word. I thank you for Your instruction on the testing of our faith and the knowledge of the growth it brings within us. I pray that each person who reads this will have clarity and understanding of what Your words says. I pray that they would find joy in You during their trials and seek Your wisdom and clarity as they go through them. I pray that the hearts of the lost would be open to Your truth- that they would have an undeniable experience with You. I pray Your love and presence surround each of us- protect us Lord from the schemes of Satan- and bless each person abundantly in Jesus mighty name I pray

Amen

Daily Devo- Road to Salvation

Today’s devotional is about sharing the road to salvation. A recent study I completed through the Christian University Online referred to it as the “Romans Road to Salvation”. This is probably due to the fact that it consists of 8 different scriptures all found in the book of Romans in the Bible.

Follow me as we take a trip down the “Romans Road to Salvation” and dig into scripture to see what the Bible says about salvation and its importance in our life.

Recognize that no one is free of sin- no one is perfect.

Romans 3:23 NKJV- 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

Recognize the consequences of sin without Jesus

Romans 6:23 NKJV- 23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Acknowledge the sacrifice and love from God

Romans 5:8 NKJV- But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Accept and confess- you are a sinner and need Jesus to save you

Romans 10:9 NKJV- that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

Call upon Him-Invite Him into your life- You are saved

Romans 10:13 NKJV- 13 For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Gift of Salvation

Romans 5:1 NKJV- Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,

You are free!

Romans 8:1 NKJV- There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank you for the gift of salvation. For loving me so much to send your son to die for my sins. Lord I recognize that I am a sinner and fall short of your glory each day. Forgive me Lord for the sins I have committed. Lord help to give me discernment, strength through temptation, and ability to withstand the deceit from Satan. I am so thankful you are a forgiving and gracious God, regardless of my many short comings. It’s in Jesus’ mighty name I pray.

Amen

Daily Devo- Access God’s Power

Acts 1:8

But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

Our power as a born again Christian comes directly from the Holy Spirit. When we ask Jesus to come into our hearts; the Holy Spirit (3rd person in the trinity) comes to live within us. Dwelling within our hearts and abiding with us forever more.

Witness is defined by dictionary.com as a verb meaning to see, hear, or know by personal presence and perception.

Being a witness of God doesn’t mean you merely go around telling everyone about what He has done for you. Although sharing your testimony is part of what God has called you to do- we must take notice to what the Bible says about the Holy Spirit living within us.

When we become born again believers and have accepted Jesus as our Savior we begin to walk in the spirit. The Holy Spirit is what helps us to change ourselves from the inside out- to begin living the Christian life through us.

16 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.

Galatians 5:16 NKJV

We can not make the changes on our own. The human species is flawed. Without Jesus being the bridge between us and God we are nothing. However, when we accept Jesus as our Savior, He bridges the “gap” of sin between us and God. He sends the Holy Spirit to dwell within us from that day on.

The Holy Spirit lives within us and bears witness to those around us as they see the changes in our life right before their eyes. We are called to be a witness through the power of the Holy Spirit so that others will see we are not like those who live for the world.

Have you accessed God’s power?

You do not have to fight the battles in this life alone. God is almighty and powerful- He has already won the war- put your trust in Him and unleash the power of God in your life!

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank you for sending Your son to die on the cross for my sins and bridging the gap between us. Thank you for giving me access to Your power through the Holy Spirit. Lord I confess that I get wrapped up in the moment sometimes and forget that my actions, my words, and my attitude should reflect You. That my pure existence is to be witness of Your love and to share the exciting news of God’s power, patience, and purpose for our lives. I pray that You would give me discernment and direct my paths. I pray that You will help me to exercise self-control and not be so easily swept up into the world. Thank you for Your forgiveness and promises to help me and protect me in Jesus mighty name I pray.

Amen

Daily Devo- Let your light shine

Philippians 2:14-16

Do all things without complaining and disputing,15 that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, 16 holding fast the word of life, so that I may rejoice in the day of Christ that I have not run in vain or labored in vain.

In a world that is so corrupt, twisted, and perverse, as Christians we need to be mindful of the fact we are a beacon of light for the lost. We should clearly stand out among those who live in the ways of the world.

We aren’t perfect and we certainly do not have all the answers. BUT we do have God on our side, which should give us rest in knowing that He is always in control.

The local church in an imperfect institution full of imperfect people resulting in many non-believers believing that church goers are hypocrites.

When we are not within the “box” of the church, we need to remember that the only introduction or experience with Jesus that some people have is by watching us.

Although we are not perfect and sinless, there should be a definite difference between our actions, reactions, and life choices than that of one who does not have a personal relationship with Jesus.

Strive to be the light in someone else’s otherwise dark world.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank you Lord for being the beacon of light in my life. Thank you for lighting my path, directing my step, and working on my behalf. Lord, I confess that there are times that I get wrapped up in the ways of the World and Your light within me dims as I unintentionally ignore opportunities to be someone else’s beacon of light. God I pray that You would ignite a fire in me that I can’t ignore or miss. Use me Lord to be the light for those I interact with each day. Help me to be a better example of You. Let Your love that shines so brightly in my soul, burst through each broken crack in my life. Teach me how to share Your light with others in Jesus mighty name I pray

Amen

Daily Devo- Restoration and Transformation

Jesus’ sole purpose on Earth was to bring us new life by offering up His life as the ultimate sacrifice for our sins. Jesus saved us from the destructive power of sin! He bridged the gap between us and God, enabling us to be transformed by His Holy Spirit into the beings He intended us to be.

The transformation by the Holy Spirit is available to anyone who accepts God’s gift of salvation and forgiveness. When one accepts God’s gift they are born into a new life. This is what Christians refer to as being reborn spiritually. The Bible tells us the old passes away and God raises up a new life and new purpose within us.

A persons church membership, attitude, religious practices, and baptismal are all important parts to the Christian life, but these things alone do NOT make a person a Christian. Unfortunately, there are many people in the world today who claim to be Christians but have never had a personal intimate relationship with Jesus– causing much confusion to those who do not understand the difference between religion and relationship.

Sin created a massive wedge between God and man where there use to be a close intimate relationship with Him. Each person was created for fellowship and relationship with our Creator, but once sin was introduced into the world by Adam and Eve we began to choose to go our own way instead of following Gods perfect plan and will for our lives. (Isaiah 53:6)

The result of this rebellion is tragic. Rebellion against God is spiritual death.

However, the Lord is eager to forgive us and restore our fellowship with Him.

So how do you do this?

3 Biblical Requirements

  • Admit you are a sinner (Romans 3:23)
  • Recognize the seriousness of your sin. God sets a standard of perfection in which no one can please Him in their own self-efforts, this is why we need Jesus to bridge the gap. (Isaiah 64:6, Romans 5:8, Romans 6:23)
  • It’s not enough just to know that Christ died for us, you must receive it.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank you Lord, for this message about You and Your word. I am thankful to know you are a forgiving and merciful God, who wants an intimate relationship with me spiritually. God, I pray You will open my heart and mind to Your truth, help me to have clarity, discernment and understanding as I read and study Your word. Lord, I pray for transformation and restoration for myself and each person who does not know You or the truth in Your word. Thank You God for being a promise keeper and a way maker in Jesus mighty name I pray.

Amen

Prayer for Salvation

Heavenly Father,

Lord I need You in my life– I am a sinner and I fall short daily. Forgive me for my sins and for living my life within my own self-efforts and not trusting in You. I believe in You God, that you sent Your only son, Jesus, as a sacrifice for my sins. I believe He died, rose again, and is alive today. Come into my heart and take control of my life. Raise up a new life within me and cleanse me of my sins. I put my trust in You and You alone. I receive Your gift of salvation in Jesus mighty name I pray.

Amen
