Daily Devo- 5 things we can learn from Philip about Evangelism

We are all called to share the love of Christ with others- to stir up spiritual interest in non-believers. and lead them to a relationship with Jesus. How do we do this without coming off so overbearing or ‘pushy’? Let’s look at an example from the Bible.

The account of Philip sharing Christ with an Ethiopian eunuch is found in the Bible in Acts 8:26-39.

As you read the scripture- take note of ways that Philip listened and cultivated spiritual interest with the eunuch.

Philip asked the eunuch if he understood what he was reading in Isaiah 53:7-8. In which he responded, “How can I, unless someone guides me?”

Philip began to preach Jesus to him, starting with the scripture in Isaiah. Philip was helping the eunuch to understand the God of the Jews (Jesus).

There are multiple things we can learn from looking at these scriptures and understanding what is going on. The basic principle here is that when we share our faith or testimony it should be relational. We are to have spiritual interest in others without being overbearing.

In other words- Don’t preach AT them instead, talk WITH them and give advise and guidance that points to Jesus and glorifies Him.

5 more things we can learn from Philip in this scripture:

  1. Philip was obedient to God’s instruction
  2. Philip met the man where he was at
  3. Philip sensed the eagerness of the Ethiopian Church
  4. Philip pointed Him to scripture
  5. Philip took him as far as he was willing to go

Heavenly Father,

Thank you Lord for Your guidance- for leading the way and being by my side for every step. Lord, I thank you for this message from You about evangelism. Lord, I confess that in the past I have not always given spiritual interest to those you have placed in my path. I sometimes get carried away with my emotions and I fall short on giving advice that glorifies and leads to you. Lord, forgive me. I pray You will give me guidance and discernment when interacting with others. Help me to know what to say and how to say it. I want to be one who can give sound advice or guidance that clearly points to You and glorifies Your kingdom. Thank you for being a forgiving and loving Father in Jesus mighty name I pray.

Daily Devo- Access God’s Power

Acts 1:8

But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

Our power as a born again Christian comes directly from the Holy Spirit. When we ask Jesus to come into our hearts; the Holy Spirit (3rd person in the trinity) comes to live within us. Dwelling within our hearts and abiding with us forever more.

Witness is defined by as a verb meaning to see, hear, or know by personal presence and perception.

Being a witness of God doesn’t mean you merely go around telling everyone about what He has done for you. Although sharing your testimony is part of what God has called you to do- we must take notice to what the Bible says about the Holy Spirit living within us.

When we become born again believers and have accepted Jesus as our Savior we begin to walk in the spirit. The Holy Spirit is what helps us to change ourselves from the inside out- to begin living the Christian life through us.

16 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.

Galatians 5:16 NKJV

We can not make the changes on our own. The human species is flawed. Without Jesus being the bridge between us and God we are nothing. However, when we accept Jesus as our Savior, He bridges the “gap” of sin between us and God. He sends the Holy Spirit to dwell within us from that day on.

The Holy Spirit lives within us and bears witness to those around us as they see the changes in our life right before their eyes. We are called to be a witness through the power of the Holy Spirit so that others will see we are not like those who live for the world.

Have you accessed God’s power?

You do not have to fight the battles in this life alone. God is almighty and powerful- He has already won the war- put your trust in Him and unleash the power of God in your life!

Heavenly Father,

Thank you for sending Your son to die on the cross for my sins and bridging the gap between us. Thank you for giving me access to Your power through the Holy Spirit. Lord I confess that I get wrapped up in the moment sometimes and forget that my actions, my words, and my attitude should reflect You. That my pure existence is to be witness of Your love and to share the exciting news of God’s power, patience, and purpose for our lives. I pray that You would give me discernment and direct my paths. I pray that You will help me to exercise self-control and not be so easily swept up into the world. Thank you for Your forgiveness and promises to help me and protect me in Jesus mighty name I pray.

Daily Devo- See It Through

Just as listening to the right voice among chaos is very important- so is carrying out what God has told you to do. Mark 1:36-39 the last verse is not merely a review of the passage- it is the application. Jesus did what He said He was going to do- He preached at the synagogues.

Jesus’ target of ministry was to reach ‘all of Galilee’ with the good news. His target would later change as His disciples followed in His steps. The ministry then extended to the ‘ends of the Earth.’ (Acts 1:8)

Application process of our quiet time is equally as important as the rest of it. Meaningful fellowship with Christ comes when we listen to Him- follow His example- and apply His word to our life in the power of the Holy Spirit. (1 Peter 2:21)

Here is a helpful approach to prayer..

A-Adoration- worship God for who He is

C- Confession- acknowledge your sins

T– Thanksgiving- Thank God for His grace and blessings

S- Supplication- Asking God for what you need.

Following the above approach to prayer is a great way to be sure you do not forget what you want to pray, it also helps you keep your prayer life fresh and fruitful.

Heavenly Father,

Your love, mercy, and forgiveness always leaves me amazed. You are a great and just Father. Thank You God for never leaving me nor forsaking me, You keep me safe and protected under Your wings. Lord, forgive me for my sins. Lord, help me to remember to run to You in prayer first and to always seek Your divine direction. Lord, help me to control my words and feelings as I go about my day- I struggle with being effected by those around me. I am so thankful Your grace is new every morning. Thank you for Your many blessings, for protecting my family and leading us in the way we should go. Lord I ask that you help me to form a healthy and fruitful prayer life. I ask that You fill me up with Your Holy Spirit. Give me Your strength to withstand the schemes of Satan and to stand strong in my faith and not be affected by those around me. In Jesus mighty name I pray.
