What is a QCD?

A Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) is a direct transfer from your IRA to a qualified 501(c)(3) nonprofit. It can help you give generously while reducing taxable income.

Direct to the charity

The check (or transfer) must be payable to the nonprofit, not to you.

Tax‑efficient giving

QCDs are generally excluded from taxable income (instead of being claimed as an itemized deduction).

Tip: If you’re satisfying a Required Minimum Distribution (RMD), a QCD may count toward it, while keeping the distribution out of taxable income.

How to make your QCD (step‑by‑step)

Click your IRA custodian below. We kept this simple so you can complete it fast.

Fidelity’s QCD page: Open instructions

  1. Log in to your Fidelity account.
  2. Locate your IRA and start a distribution / withdrawal.
  3. Choose an option that makes the check payable to the charity (not to you).
  4. Enter the charity details (copy from the box on the right): Faith Anchored, address, EIN if requested.
  5. Submit the request and keep your confirmation for your records.
If Fidelity mails the check to you, it should still be payable to Faith Anchored (you can then forward it).

Schwab’s QCD resource: Open instructions

  1. Log in to Schwab and open your IRA account options.
  2. Start a charitable distribution / QCD request (or download Schwab’s QCD form from the link above).
  3. Set the payee as Faith Anchored (not you).
  4. Enter the nonprofit mailing address: 30950 Springlake Blvd Unit 21110, Novi, MI 48051.
  5. Submit and retain confirmation for your tax files.
Reminder: The financial contribution must go directly to the charity to qualify as a QCD.

For Vanguard IRA account holders, you can typically initiate a distribution from your online account.

Step‑by‑Step Instructions
  1. Log in to Vanguard and open your IRA (Traditional or Inherited).
  2. Navigate to your retirement summary / IRA details.
  3. Start a distribution / “move money” flow.
  4. Choose the option that makes the check payable to a charity.
  5. Enter the gift details (amount + Faith Anchored name + mailing address; EIN if requested).
  6. Review and submit.
Timing note: processing and mailing can take time, especially late in the year. Consider submitting earlier if you want it counted for the current tax year.

E*TRADE’s charitable donation flow: Open instructions

  1. Open the link above and sign in.
  2. Select the IRA account you want to donate from.
  3. Choose “charitable donation” / QCD distribution.
  4. Enter the payee as Faith Anchored and add the mailing address.
  5. Submit the request and keep your confirmation.
If E*TRADE asks for charity verification details, use the name + address + EIN shown on this page.

Most custodians follow the same pattern: initiate an IRA distribution and make the check/transfer payable to the charity. If you need a custodian‑specific form, email us and we’ll help.

Quick FAQ

Will I get a receipt?

Yes. We can provide a written acknowledgment for your records. If your custodian mails the check directly to us, include your name/address when possible so we can match and receipt it.

Can a QCD be used toward my RMD?

In many cases, yes — QCDs may count toward your RMD for the year (rules vary by situation). Please consult your tax advisor.
